Diesel powered automobiles have somewhat been shunned till now for being less environment friendly, but....

 Automotive Valves Industry
The worldwide valve manufacturing industry is a highly fragmented industry. Presently, there are approximately 1,365 valve manufacturers based in developed and developing nations. Of which China is the leading manufacturing hub of valves covering almost 81% of the global valves manufacturing market. Currently, the size of global valves manufacturing industry is US $ 43 billion, which is forecasted to reach to US $ 53 billion by the end of 2010. US, Germany, Italy and Japan are the leading exporters of valves in the world.

Automotive Valves
Valves are the devices, which are used for regulating the flow of fluids or liquids. These are basically pipe fittings that have multiple applications. They are used in industrial, commercial, military, automobiles and residential establishments. Valves can be found in bicycle tires, water pipes and engines. Valves of varied sizes and dimensions are used in almost all types of cars, trucks, aircraft, two wheelers and tractors. Valves used in automobiles can be made from variety of raw materials like stainless steel, brass, copper, galvanized iron, carbon steel, caste steel, aluminum, and bronze. A typical automobile valve size starts from fractions of an inch to 25 to 30 feet in diameter. A typical automotive valve generally comprises of two valves namely intake and exhaust valves, which are used for letting air and fuel mixture in and out from the engine cylinder. It is a device used for controlling and regulating the flow of air/fuel mixture. Basically, valves are the pipe fittings used in various applications such as steam engines, diesel engines, petrol engines, heating or cooking appliances.

Types of Valves

A/C Valves Brake Valve Carburetor Valve
Check Valve Expansion Valve Pressure Relief Valves
Thermostat Valves Magnetic Valve Valve Parts

The main function of A/C valves used in the automobiles is to sense, detect and regulate refrigerant flow to the evaporator. Also known as expansion valves, these devices are used for sensing the pressure at the suction of a/c compressor. These valves as illustrated in the diagram make sure pressure remains balanced at the compressor suction. A/C valves are mostly placed at the firewall i.e. between the evaporator inlet and outlet tubes and the liquid and suction lines. The common types of A/C valves are expansion valve, TXV and Chrysler’s ‘H’ block type valve.

A/C Valves
Brake Valve
Brake Valve are considered to be the fundamental part of an automobile brake system. These are the devices through which driver of the vehicle controls and operate the brake. Brake valves are used for adjusting the pressure between the front and rear brakes. Stainless steel, carbon steel, iron, titanium, copper, brass, bronze, chromium vanadium etc are used for manufacturing brake valves like Hydraulic Brake Valve.

Carburetor Valve Commonly referred to as Carb, this is the device that is used for mixing air and fuel for internal combustion engine of an automobile. It helps in controlling and monitoring the flow of air via carburetor throat. These valves regulate engine power and speed by delivering equally the air/fuel mixture into the engine. Butterfly valve and choke are the two commonly used carburetor valves.

Brake Valve
Check Valve
Check Valve Often called as self activating valves, these devices are used for directing the mixture of gases and liquid to flow in only a single direction thereby preventing process flow from getting reversed. Acetal polymers, aluminum, brass, bronze, cast iron, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, ductile iron, copper, polytetrafluoroethylen, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene fluoride, polyethylene, polypropylene, rubber, steel, or stainless steel are used for making check valves used in almost all types of automobiles.

This type of mechanical valve is used for lowering the pressure of the refrigerant and then cools it when it goes into the evaporator coil in a heat pump. More precisely, it is the most important part of an automobile air conditioning system that regulates or monitors the rate at which refrigerant enters into an evaporator unit. The basic components of expansion valve as depicted in the diagram are capillary tube, sensing bulb, spring, push pin, diaphragm, superheat adjustment spindle, orifice, and power head.

Expansion Valve
Pressure Relief Valves
Pressure Relief Valves are those self operating devices or machines that are used for ensuring protection against over pressurization of steam, air, gas and liquid. The key function of pressure relief valve is to monitor the flow of fluid and ensure that the pressure does not exceed beyond its specified limit. These valves release the steam, when safe pressures exceed its defined limit and shut down it when it drops to the preset level. A variety of pressure relief valves such as diaphragm valves, globe valves or swing valves are widely used in automobiles.

Thermostat Valves usually contains a needle valve, seat, metallic diaphragm, spring and adjusting screw. It is a temperature-regulating device that is used for monitoring and controlling the flow of coolant via radiator. Thermostat valves are usually located at the thermostat housing between the engine and at the end of upper radiator hose. These valves allow the engine coolant to move easily within the cylinder block till the suitable temperature is attained. Thermostat valve is controlled by a piston or steel pin that can be accommodated into a small case, having copper impregnated wax pellet.

Thermostat Valves
Magnetic Valve
This type of valve is a modified and refined version of valve that has replaced ball and butterfly valves. Magnetic valve has a switch that actuates when an electrical current is applied. After that plunger moves to the middle of cylinder and opens up the passage for mixture of air and fuel to circulate to the other parts of an engine of the vehicle.

Valve Parts are basically the subordinate or supplementary devices used along with the automobile valves and have different functions like valve Cover are those devices used for covering valves and keeping them immaculate and ready to use. These covers can have breather holes or knockouts and have an ability of preventing freeze-up at the time of winters. Valve Lifters are the oil lubricated round shaped devices used for applying pressure against the lobe of camshaft resulting in upward and downward movement of the camshaft. These lifters are also called valve follower and roller lifters. Valve Springs are the components that are used for closing the valves when rocker arms are not letting them open. Besides these, there are other accessories also used with automotive valves such as :
